April Book Club

Hi Ladies!

Can I just say, I really LOVE book club!  It's so fun to read books and discover new authors that I might not otherwise pick up.

The book this month is The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis.  I've never read him so I'm looking forward to reading this book.  It sounds like an interesting one.  The meeting will be held at 6:30pm on April 7th at Christine's house.

Also, if anyone's interested, please post your reviews of the books we've read.  If you need an invitation to be an author on this blog, let me know . I'll be happy to add you.

See you in a few weeks!

  2. Well I don't know about you guys, but I found this book very tough to read and I must admit, I didn't finish it by the time we met. Having said that, I definitely intend to finish it along with some other essays by C.S. Lewis. From what I did read, I found his ideas very insightful and truthful. My only problem was that I'd read a paragraph only to find myself wondering what I'd just read. Definitely not a light read.

  3. I've always found his insights to be inspiring and uplifting, as well as making me think introspectively a lot. In The Screwtape Letters I was struck by how eloquently the sublety of Satan's lies roll off the tongue of Screwtape. The phrase "silken strands" kept crossing through my mind. I found myself rooting for the poor human soul...

While The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a "lighter read," persay, I find great meaning behind the story of the four children and their quest for Narnia. The Chronicles of Narnia have been a favorite of mine since childhood. Aslan brings tears to my eyes when I chose to look beyond the Lion and view Him in the role Lewis meant for Him to symbolize and imagine my relationship with Christ being as close as Lucy is with the Not So Tame Lion. I hope everyone enjoys it!
