June Book Club

Wow!  I'm really behind in updating the blog this month.  When I tried to do it earlier, the blogger website wasn't available and I'm just now getting back to it.  YIKES!  Hopefully, everyone got my email that the book we'll be discussing in June is Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken.  The meeting will be held this coming week; June 2nd at 6:30pm at my house.  Hope to see you all there.

May Book Club

Hi everyone!

It's that time again.  Just wanted to get a reminder out about the book club meeting for May.  We'll be reading The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis from the Chronicals of Narnia series.  We decided that since we tried a "difficult" C.S. Lewis, we'd try something a little easier to read.  I've never read anything from this series; I've only seen two of the movies.

The next meeting with be held at my house on Thursday, May 5th at 6:30 pm.

Thanks!

Lori

PS:  Please post reviews of the books (if you're interested in doing that).  :D

April Book Club

Hi Ladies!

Can I just say, I really LOVE book club!  It's so fun to read books and discover new authors that I might not otherwise pick up.

The book this month is The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis.  I've never read him so I'm looking forward to reading this book.  It sounds like an interesting one.  The meeting will be held at 6:30pm on April 7th at Christine's house.

Also, if anyone's interested, please post your reviews of the books we've read.  If you need an invitation to be an author on this blog, let me know . I'll be happy to add you.

See you in a few weeks!

February 2011 Book Club Meeting

Hi Everyone!

February book club will be held at my house on Thursday, Feb. 3rd, at 6:30pm.  The book is Up From the Blue, a debut novel by Susan Henderson.  Here's a description from the cover:  "Tillie Harris's life is in disarray - her husband is away on business, the boxes in her new home aren't unpacked, and the telephone isn't even connected yet.  Though she's not due for another month, sudden labor pains force Tillie to reach out to her estranged father for help, a choice that means facing the painful memories she's been running from since she was a little girl."

This book is available from the library and I've got a copy, but if anyone else has a copy and can loan it out, please let me know.

Thanks and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone next month!

January 2011 Book Club Meeting

Hi Ladies,

Merry Christmas!  I can't believe today is Christmas Eve.  I hope you all have a wondrous and joyous Christmas holiday.  It's been a while since I've updated our blog.  Sorry I've been remiss in my duties.  I'll do better in the new year, I promise.  Our book for January has changed and we will be reading Matched by Ally Condie.  I'm hearing great things about this book.  If you can't get the book from the library, Tawnya has it to loan out and I'll be buying it and can loan it out as well.  If anyone else has a copy or will be buying it, let me know.

The meeting will be held at Tawnya's house on Thursday, Jan. 6th at 6:30pm.  Let me know if you need Tawnya's address.

October Meeting, 2010

Our first meeting to discuss Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet was a fun night and thanks to everyone who came and contributed your insights on this wonderful book.  It was fun to hear your views and ideas about the story.  For me, it was a tender, beautiful story and I found it interesting to learn more about the internment of the Japanese during WWII.  I loved the ending and found it immensely satisfying.  I hope everyone enjoyed reading this book.  Thanks to Danielle for a great pick!

Our next meeting will be held Thursday, Nov 4th at Christine's house.  Christine has chosen Remember Me by Mary Higgins Clark as the selection.  I'm looking forward to reading this; I've never read anything by Mary Higgins Clark but I've heard she's very good.

Hope everyone has a wonderful October, a safe and happy Halloween, and we'll see you in November!
